Salt Lake City
Arrival May 18. Tour May 19. Depart May 20.

With an average of more than 220 days of sunshine each year, there are endless things to do in the Greater Salt Lake City area, as we'll discover on today's Guided Tour. An often -underrated destination, the city’s reputation is sometimes tied to the peculiarities of Mormon culture and Utah’s exacting liquor laws—but you’re missing out if you think that’s all there is to this place. From renowned restaurants to hidden speakeasies, salt flats to double-feature drive-ins, attractions abound in this mountain town.
Salt Lake City makes a great gateway for travelers making a trip to Utah's ski resorts or southward to Utah’s renowned red rock country. Frequently referred to as the "Crossroads of the West," its location is also ideal for longer road trips northward to Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks. Though as those who attempt to pass through often find, you'll frequently talk yourself into returning to stay longer than you expected.

Park City
Tour May 19

Our Guided Tour will continue up Parley's Canyon and over the summit to charming Park City. Stroll Main Street, with origins back to the mining-town era. Quaint shops and restaurants line the street where you'll have time to visit the Park City Museum, grab a bite to eat and shop a mix of local shops and outfitters. A visit will also be made to Park City's Utah Olympic Park, site of the 2002 Winter Olympic Bobsledding and Ski-Jumping venues. The museum offers plenty of history and memorabilia surrounding the '02 Olympics.
Park City could certainly stake a rightful claim of being the “perfect mountain town.” Combining its silver mining town heritage, an artistic vibe and a deep appreciation for the outdoors, Park City strikes a balance between luxury and comfort, all the while showing a deep appreciation for athletics, arts and community. The winter slopes were once featured in the Olympics, and in summer the mountains and nearby state parks and reservoirs transform into a hiking, mountain biking, fishing and camping mecca.

Zion National Park
Tour May 20

After a morning drive south (approximately 5 hours) and stops en route, you arrive in Springdale, UT. Rugged gorges with sheer sandstone walls up to 2,000 feet high, waterfalls, hanging gardens and slot canyons combine to create the awe-inspiring Zion National Park. Park trails offer short hiking experiences for every level of activity. A picnic lunch can be provided to get the most out of our day inside the park. Alternatively, a sit-down lunch at one of the many restaurants around Springdale offers a lovely ambiance for the perfect day tour
A thousand-foot-deep red rock canyon, nested in dramatic surroundings. Whether you are trying to catch your breath while climbing the trail to Observation Point or watching the shadows constantly change the mood of the Court of the Patriarchs, Zion National Park is always ready to quench your appetite for outdoor wonder.

Bryce Canyon National Park
Tour May 21

We depart Zion for a 2.5 hour drive to Bryce Canyon. Discover a maze of spires, windows and pinnacles made of sandstone at Bryce Canyon National Park. Hike to the base of the amphitheater along the paved Navajo Loop trail through the Queen's Garden or enjoy the magnificent canyon from one of the many rim viewpoints.
An alpine forest with as many red rock hoodoos as trees. At dawn and dusk, mule deer graze the forested plateau along the road into Bryce Canyon. The alpine environment is home to dozens of species of mammals and birds, all acquainted with a spectacular truth: this is no ordinary forest. Water and wind over millions of years of freezes and thaws, have carved into the plateau endless fields of distinctive red rock pillars, called hoodoos, as well as into the park's series of natural amphitheaters. And because Bryce Canyon National Park is at an elevation of 8,000 to 9,000 feet, there are even opportunities for winter sports like snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

Following our visit to Bryce, the drive to Torrey, UT is approximately 2.5 hours, where we overnight.

Capitol Reef National Park
Tour May 22

This morning, it's a short drive to Capitol Reef National Park. Located in south-central Utah in the heart of red rock country, Capitol Reef National Park is a hidden treasure filled with cliffs, canyons, domes, and bridges in the Waterpocket Fold, a geologic monocline (a wrinkle on the earth) extending almost 100 miles.
Even considering Utah’s many impressive national parks and monuments, it is difficult to rival Capitol Reef National Park’s sense of expansiveness, of broad, sweeping vistas, of a tortured, twisted, seemingly endless landscape, or of limitless sky and desert rock. While Bryce and Zion are like encapsulated little fantasy lands of colored stone and soaring cliffs, the less-visited Capitol Reef is almost like a planet unto itself. Here you get a real feel for what the earth might have been like before life appeared, when nothing existed but earth and sky.

Canyonlands National Park
Tour May 22

The next stop on our tour of the Mighty 5 is Canyonlands National Park. Explore a wilderness of countless canyons and fantastically formed buttes carved by the Colorado River and its tributaries. Rivers divide the park into four districts: Island in the Sky, The Needles, The Maze, and the rivers themselves. The tour will take you along the Island in the Sky mesa overlooking the canyons and rivers. Stand 1,400 feet above the canyon from the Shafer Canyon Overlook viewpoint as well as the near endless views from Grand Viewpoint. Stretch your legs on the stunning .7-mile hike to Mesa Arch, a natural rock formation perched on the edge of a cliff.

Arches National Park
Tour May 23

This morning it's a quick ride to Arches National Park. Visit Arches to discover a landscape of contrasting colors, landforms and textures unlike any other in the world. The park has over 2,000 natural stone arches, in addition to hundreds of soaring pinnacles, massive fins and giant balanced rocks. This red-rock wonderland will amaze you with its formations, refresh you with its trails, and inspire you with its sunsets.
It’s no surprise that Arches National Park is one of the top national parks in America: it’s a 73,234-acre wonderland of eroded sandstone fins, towers, ribs, gargoyles, hoodoos, balanced rocks, and, of course, arches northwest of Moab. The park protects an amazing landscape that includes the largest proliferation of arches in the world. Over 2,000 arches have been cataloged in Arches National Park. At sunrise, rays of light break over dramatic horizons. A new day in Arches begins.
